Religious radicalism
and political violence at the national and global level must be overcome
together. And Indonesia, although known as the largest Muslim country that is
tolerant, but still be able to escape from the threat of religious radicalism
and political violence.
Thus Dean of the
Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Social) Syarif Hidayatullah, Zulkifli,
in an international seminar, entitled "Religious Radicalism and Political
Violence: Towards Nation-State Building" in the building FISIP UIN Jakarta
(Tuesday, 09/08).
According to Zulkifli,
the most obvious and massive threat currently comes from the organization of
the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) that want to establish an Islamic
state with brutal and barbarian way.
"Not a few people
of Indonesia who are interested to become a member of ISIS and willing to go to
Syria" he added, saying that this phenomenon is a real threat to the
Indonesian government and the civil society in Indonesia.
He invites the
community and the government of Indonesia to jointly fight against radicalism
and political violence not only violates the values of religiosity all
religions, but also the values of Pancasila as the state of Indonesia.
The seminar was
attended by speakers from the international community such as Prof. Jacques
Bertrand (Unuversity of Toronto, Canada), Prof. Greg Barton (Deakin University,
Australia), Dr. Leonard C. Compounds (Nanyang Technological University,
Singapore). The seminar was held for two days until Wednesday tomorrow. [YSA]
